to Benefit Local Civic Organizations"

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the prize?
A: Thousands of dollars in gold. Yes, gold. Would any self respecting treasure be anything else? Prize amount is determined by Colossus Enterprise LLC and will vary from one event to the next based on event location demographics.

Q: Who gets the treasure?
A: The treasure will be awarded to the first registered, entered, and in all other respects eligible hunter who successfully solves all the puzzles and locates all the object clues and the treasure's location and turns in those results. Should the treasure go unclaimed it will be donated to the group that entered the most participants.

Q: What kind of puzzles?
A: The puzzles will consist of riddles, brain teasers, codes, ciphers, clues and logic problems.

Q: That sounds difficult…
A: Some of the puzzles are more difficult than others, but they are all designed to be solved within the one year event time period.

Q: How do the object clues figure into all this?
A: A puzzle, once solved, will reveal clues leading to an object clue. That object clue is then used to help solve the next puzzle which will lead to the next object clue, and so on. All object clues are located within the benefiting event coverage area.

Q: Once I’ve solved and found everything, how do I turn in my results?
A: See Official Rules for your event. If you’ve truly solved all of the puzzles and located all of the object clues, you’ll know where the gold is located, what to do, where to go and how to go about it.

Q: I’ve submitted my results for verification. How will I know if I’ve won?
A: If your answers are correct and it is determined that you used your skill and intellect to solve the puzzles and find the object clues, and your registration and entry fee are on file with us, you will be contacted for further verification.

Q: I’ve mailed in my results for verification, but I haven’t heard anything. Why not?
A: Could be any of several reasons. Wrong or incomplete solutions and object clues, registration or entry fee not on file with us, you weren’t the first packet received and someone else’s packet is under review, or it could be that your packet is currently being reviewed.

Q: What happens if no one claims the treasure?
A: Should the gold go unclaimed, it will be donated to the organization that registered the most participants.

Q: How can I participate in a hunt?
A: Choose a hunt from the “Current Hunts” page. Fill out the registration information and pay the entry fee on the ensuing page to receive your Official Clue Sheet/Treasure Map. That’s it, you’re all set!

Q: Do I have to pay the entry fee to participate? How much is it?
A: Yes. Event entry fees will vary from one event to the next based on event location demographics, but what will remain constant is that all entry fee proceeds will go to the individual groups that collect them. In most cases, the entry fee will consist of a donation of any size.

Q: Must I fill out the registration form to participate?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I participate in the Hunt for History by aiding someone else who already has a map? Like my friends or family?
A: No. As stated in the Official Rules, all collaborations require that all parties involved register, enter, and have their own map. If it is determined that a potential finder collaborated with or otherwise received assistance from an unregistered person in any way to solve any portion of a puzzle, the same shall be disqualified and declared ineligible to receive the prize.

Q: Does this mean that once I've solved a puzzle that I can't ask for directions from an organization or someone on the street about where to find the object clue I'm searching for?
A: Not at all. The Collaborations rules apply only to the solving of the puzzles. Once a puzzle is solved and you have the name of an object clue, you may employ whatever means necessary to locate it. This is where the "ingenuity" portion of the Hunt comes into play.

Q: How can my group become an Official Distributor of Clue Sheet/Treasure Maps?
A: Go to the Distribution Application page. Fill out and submit the application there. If eligible, a representative of Colossus Enterprise LLC will contact you to set up an appointment to register.

Q: How can I determine whether my group is eligible to be an Official Distributor?
A: To be eligible for the position of Official Distributor, a group must be a charity, non- profit, or otherwise self-supporting or donations-driven community service type of organization that exists for the greater overall good of the community, and be located within the chosen to benefit event area. Additional terms and qualifications may be required in determining eligibility.

Q: I'd like to advertise my business or service in your Treasure Map game pieces. How can I do that?
A: Go to the "Advertise With Us" page and fill out the contact form. A representative will be in touch with you in short order and arrange a brief meeting to go over your options.

Q: How can I sponsor an event in my area?
A: Go to the “Get a hunt for my area” page. Fill out the contact form, complete with the proposed event coverage area.
