Salem High School SADD receives Washington
County, IN Hunt for History treasure; Hunt continues
Current Salem High School SADD Chapter President Jessica Thompson accepts eight ounces of gold donated by Colossus Enterprise Owner Bart Kay at the Washington County Courthouse in southern
Hartsook stated that she was grateful for the donation, and that she decided to make use of the Hunt for History as a fund raising option.
“I never pass up a fund raiser,” she said, grinning.
Hartsook also said that she plans to use the money from the sale of the gold to fund yearly student trips to the national SADD conferences for the next few years.
“Next year’s conference is in
“While I had fully expected a hunter to find it, I’m really glad to see one of the charitable/non-profit groups end up with the gold,” said Kay. “I’m grateful to be able to help support the mission of the Salem High School SADD Chapter with this donation.”
“Our first Hunt for History was a success in that
Kay stated that he has replaced the gold with an “unknown” amount of silver in the form of 1 ounce American Silver Eagle coins so that the Hunt for History can live on for those fortunate enough to have obtained a treasure map.
“There will be no deadline on this hunt, so all those who put time and effort into deciphering the clues on the treasure map can continue with their efforts” said Kay. “If it takes 50 years or longer, so be it. For those interested, a few treasure maps, official handbooks and Hunter’s Forum memberships are still available for the continuing hunt in
When asked about future treasure hunts, Kay spoke of broadening his market base by offering to plan hunts on a smaller scale for interested groups and individuals across the country, and hinted at a regional treasure hunt to include southern
“The Hunt for History can be even more effective in aiding a single group, given that treasure maps would only be available from that group and as such all proceeds would be focused there,” said Kay. “But we’re also capable of planning treasure hunts on a regional or national scale, for that matter. I’m currently seeking a business or magnanimous individual to sponsor a regional Hunt to benefit groups in and around the greater Louisville/Kentuckiana area. Whatever your fundraising need, we can tailor a hunt to fit it. We welcome any and all inquiries at www.ColossusEnterpriseLLC.com.”
"X" marks the spot!
"X" does indeed mark the spot, but that doesn't mean there will be any digging for this gold- at least not with a shovel, that is. The Hunt for History is a journey through the history of an event coverage area which will require some intellect to solve the clues to learn what to look for and a certain amount of skill and ingenuity to determine the best way to find it. All of the clues relate to some past historical point, person, or place of note in your community that you may or may not already be aware of, so any digging will be of the fact-finding sort.
This event is designed to encourage knowledge of, and foster pride in, the event coverage area's colorful heritage while helping to fund those community serving groups and organizations that do so much, but sadly, are all to often taken for granted. By choosing to participate in your local Hunt for History event you are not only deciding to participate in a once in a lifetime treasure hunting experience for real gold, but also helping to support the local charity, non-profit or otherwise self-funded civic organization of your choice. Colossus Enterprise LLC encourages you to get out, get involved, and hopefully, along with your community, get a little richer. Enjoy!
